BRBO was started in 1999. It is a Qualifying event for the Mid-South Homebrewer and Homebrew Club of the Year and Carolina Brewer, Master Brewer and Mead Maker of the Year competitions. The Dr. George Fix award for homebrewers who have been brewing for one year or less is also a special award given only at BRBO. The Blue Ridge Brew Off is sanctioned by the BJCP.
